BUILD UP’s guide to EU Sustainable Energy Week 2015

With its own stand and numerous events organised by its Partners, BUILD UP will be omnipresent at the upcoming EU Sustainable Energy Week 2015 (EUSEW 2015). This article gives an overview of the activities of BUILD UP Partners during the event.

EUSEW 2015 provides a platform to discuss energy policy and to present best practices that help achieve the EU’s energy and climate targets. The 10th edition will take place in Brussels and across Europe from 15 to 19 June. Multiple BUILD UP Partners will be present in Brussels with a Policy Conference session or a side-event.

Those who would like to get to know BUILD UP further can visit the BUILD UP stand on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 June on the 5th floor of the Jacques Delors building.

NOTE: Those who missed the pre-registration deadline for EU Sustainable Energy Week 2015 will have the possibility to register on-site in both buildings on the days of the conference.

Tuesday 16 June

The Policy Conference kicks off with an Opening Session hosted by Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Cañete. The session’s title immediately sets the tone: Energy efficiency first.

On the same day, the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) will discuss the deployment of ground source heat pumps in buildings during the side-event Developing sustainable energy in your city? The heat under your feet is a solution.

The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) will present various innovative materials and technologies for lighting, facades and insulation during the conference Presenting materials and technologies from LEEMA, iNSPiRe and A2PBEER.

EUFORES, the European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources, will organise the session Energy Union and the path of renewables.

In a festive ceremony, FEDARENE will celebrate its 25th Anniversary and will announce the winner of the Roger Léron Award.

Wednesday 17 June

On Wednesday, the European Commission will discuss energy audits in the session Best practices in Member States - Implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive article 8.

Education and the training of construction workers will be the focus of the workshop Ensuring a qualified building workforce to reach the EU energy and climate targets, organised by the European Commission’s initiative BUILD UP Skills.

Those who would like to test their know-how of energy efficiency in buildings are invited for the interactive session Quizzing the stakeholders, hosted by EuroACE.

REHVA, the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations, invites attendees for the practice-oriented workshop Heating, cooling and ventilation: how to achieve the largest savings in buildings pursuing the EU’s energy strategy.

Thursday 18 June

On the final day of the Policy Conference, the European Commission hosts the session Tapping the potentials in the building and the heating and cooling sectors, which is held in the context of the preparation of the new Strategy on Heating and Cooling for Europe and the Review of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

Heating and cooling is also the theme of Euroheat & Power’s session District energy in cities: From EU vision to local action through an integrated approach.

Another session of the European Commission elaborates on Property valuation – valuing the impact of energy and resource efficient buildings.

Thursday morning features two sessions on Nearly-Zero Energy Buildings. The European Commission presents the workshop From Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings to net zero energy districts – Lessons learnt from existing projects, while Active House Alliance holds a conference on the Implementation of Nearly Zero Energy Buildings on national level.

The workshop on Common European Sustainable Building Assessment (CESBA), co-hosted by FEDARENE, will discuss the harmonisation of assessment tools for sustainable buildings.

Another recurring theme on Thursday is investments in energy efficiency at the local level. COGEN Europe and Energy Cities organise the joint session Reclaiming energy choices - Going local to fight global challenges, while Climate Alliance co-hosts the session Innovative partnerships between local authorities and citizens for energy efficiency investments.

Friday 19 June

On Friday, Climate Alliance keeps the focus on energy efficiency at the local level with the jointly organised side event The Energy Union project: cities and regions ahead of the game?. Financing of local energy efficiency projects will be a key topic during the debate.
